For the Fourth of July parade I offered to paint my girls' faces any way they wanted. I was struck as they each made their requests of how important it is as parents to nurture our children's self expression. Just watching her walk around the parade and party afterwards with such confidence and happiness about her appearance made me realize when you give them the reins, the outcome is quite wonderful!
